She’s not M.I.A., and not trying to be, but Karina Nistal has got that whole free spirit thing going on that makes it easy to put them side by side and compare. Hailing from Houston, Texas, or H-town as she puts it, this Cuban-Mexican artist is flourishing into what could be a new sensation. With her rapidly growing popularity – she has a collection of fans throughout the South, Midwest, and even the UK – she’s spreading the new sound by coming at you with wide array of musical experimentation. On one track she’ll rap in Spanish to reggaeton backbeats, then she’ll flip it on you as she enters the electronic genre and sings over house grooves with Latin infused rhythms.
