This gem of a record came to my attention by my good friend and bullshit sifting colleague, Natalie Crüe, who has an uncanny knack for finding some of the illest music I’ve heard in quite some time. When Natalie tipped me off about this new shit, I had a feeling it was gonna be special because everything I’ve been hearing out of Mean Doe Green’s camp has been crack as of late. As usual, both Natalie and Mean Doe Green represented proper on THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE!!! (In my Katt Williams Chronic riddled voice.)
The name of this shit right here is “Intelligent Hoodlum” and features Mean Doe Green who’s accompanied by stellar performances from fellow left coast wordsmiths Krondon (of Strong Arm Steady), Silence Dem All, and Black Zeek. All four of these intelligent hoodlums let their hearts bleed out onto the sinister arrangement of heavy-hitting percussion layered with epic Cirque du Soleil-esque melodies courtesy of producer Nicatyne. Heat rock??? Nah son… More like a fuckin’ meteorite.
When it comes to pure Hip Hop, there’s truly nothing more important for the culture than when a collective of authentic lyricists flex their liquid swords over a bold beat which perfectly complements the emotion of the emcees. This breed of Hip Hop is suffering from the threat of extinction and these West Coast emcees have stepped into the forefront of the battle against our culture’s terminal illness.
Watch out for Doey’s self-titled full-length LP, which is scheduled to drop in April of this year. Until then, this jewel oughtta hold y’all mutha fuckas over quite nicely…
